Workplace Substance Policy
Team members under the influence of impairment-causing substances on the job can pose serious safety and health risks to themselves, their co-workers and the general public. Therefore, employees are prohibited from working while impaired by any substance.
Team members that take medications or other substances that may cause impairment are asked to disclose any potential risks to their manager or member of the exec team so that suitable accommodations can be arranged. Kotn may seek outside assistance in the creation of individualized accommodation plans.
We also acknowledge that drug and alcohol dependencies are protected and recognized as a disability under human rights legislation, and therefore considered to be prohibited grounds of discrimination. However, employees are required to report any safety risks in the workplace; including their own impairment. If you are experiencing an issue with drug or alcohol dependency, Kotn will follow procedure in line with any other valid medical leave for you to seek treatment.
The consumption of legal, impairment-causing substances (such as alcohol) may be permitted at work events. Employees are expected to exercise reasonable professional judgment when consuming impairment-causing substances at all work related events.
